Moto G : What's exactly in it for you ?

Its here. Its awesome. Yeah I'm talking about the new Moto G released by Motorola. A competitively priced smartphone with specifications that leaves other budget phones in the dust (except for the camera, I mean). Anyways, without further ado , here is the meat stuff .

1.  CPU,GPU,RAM,Storage

Okay lets start with CPU. Its a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 (Such fast .many processors. much wow) and 1Gigs of RAM which means ability to run more apps at a time. GPU is Adreno 305 which is a moderate performer considering its price point. Plus, Asphalt 8, Modern Combat, DT3 runs smooth which is "so far, so good".

But but storage !! 8 GB /16 GB are the two options for Moto G models and Micro SD slot ?? HELL NO!!! (at least thats what google says) so I'd recommend not to buy 8 GB. In fact 8 GB is for only those who want apps only phone. No music. No videos. Just..a..phone. The 16 GB is a better bargain .

2. Connectivity

It offers some options for connectivity and misses some. But as the say "you pay for what you get" right ?Moto G offers Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n which is the defacto these days (but misses on DLNA and other some tech) , a microUSB 2.0 port which also acts as USB Host. (beware! hardcore gamers, Moto G does not support USB Joysticks) . It is a 3G phone, btw.

The features that moto G misses on in connectivity is :
No LTE : Since it is termed as "poor mans nexus" so ......considerable point
No NFC : wait..what!! c'mon google , this isn't you. at least you could've afforded NFC chip, if not a good camera

3. Software

This is one of the sections where other budget phones bite the dust. 4.4.2 Kitkat? Who else is giving Kitkat on sub $200 phone ?? Anybody ?? Nobody ?? okay Moto G , here I come. Technically speaking , Users who have upgraded to 4.4.2 have seen a speed bump and the little lag that was seen while switching apps is gone baby....gone. just like that.

It surely makes the other budget powerhouse users envious
But but...(theres always a but-t ) the OK google wont work when your screens turned off, meaning you can access OK google only when you're on home screen. Thats the only downside for now.

4. Camera and Battery

Camera :The camera is 5 MP with LED flash. Well I dont think I'd say more in this case, but we all know that it coulda been a better bargain for 8 MP camera well the price says otherwise, but the plus point is that it gives slow-mo recording and some pretty features such as autofocus, touch focus, face detection and HDR. The front camera is 1.3 MP and not VGA which is better for video calling (which I assume you dont use everyday, except for selfies)

Here are some camera samples

Battery : A-lot-better battery which is a Li-Ion 2070 mAh battery....but non removable. So in case your phone goes dead/ bricked/ hang, boy oh boy you are in vain. Apart from that, it has enough power to keep Moto G on for a full day on a single charge with normal use.

5. Other blah blah

Dual SIM : They've made it available in Brasil as of now, yet to be relesaed in India yet or maybe not. Dual SIM might eat up battery lot more than Single SIM, theoretically speaking
LED Notification : Comes in a single color-white and it works only for SMS, not for missed calls.
3 button headphones : No support for 3 headphones. Sorry.
Water resistant : Just because you can, doesnt mean you should

6. Verdict

All in all, a class by itself, the Moto G appears promising and delivers satisfactory performance above par performance when considering the exceptional price to performance ratio. It is a must buy if you are on a tight budget. Dont underestimate $179 phone, because its a wolf in a sheeps clothing. Lets see how this phone performs in an emerging supermarket like India, where motorola has left a bad mark on previous users and how google owns the respect back again.
